Newquay’s rail line is set to reopen on Monday after a month-long closure for major upgrade work.
The line to Par was shut on the 24th of February to allow for the creation of a passing loop at Goss Moor - part of the preparations for the new coast-to-coast Mid Cornwall Metro rail link.
Network Rail has also installed new signals and carried out bridge refurbishments, paving the way for more frequent services. The first phase of the Metro project will see hourly trains introduced later this year, with through trains from Newquay to Falmouth planned by 2026.
Further works are expected in May when level crossings at Trencreek and Chapel will be closed to traffic, a key step in improving reliability on the route.
Bogdan Lupu, Industry Programme Director at Network Rail, explains how the passing loop will help increase services on the line. PRESS PLAY to listen...
