Three paddleboarders assisted in incidents near Newquay

Coastguard volunteers, lifeboat crews and lifeguards have assisted three paddleboarders in two incidents near Newquay within 24 hours.

Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team was first called at 3.24pm on Tuesday following concerns that a paddleboarder had drifted offshore near West Pentire.

Newquay RNLI lifeboat volunteers located the casualty and took them aboard the lifeboat.

They were assessed for injuries before being returned safely to Polly Joke Beach.

The Coastguard team, South Western Ambulance Service and lifeguards from Holywell Bay were also involved in the response.

Two paddleboarders monitored from cliff

At 7.40am on Wednesday, the Coastguard team was called following concerns for two paddleboarders off Kelsey Head.

Volunteers were able to communicate with the pair from the clifftop and monitor their progress until they reached safety at Holywell Beach.

They were met by Coastguard team members and representatives from Holywell Bay Surf Life Saving Club.

The paddleboarders were assessed for injuries and given safety advice before the teams stood down.

While returning to their station at 9.03am, Coastguard volunteers were called to a separate incident involving a casualty at North Fistral.

The team located the casualty and provided initial care before handing them over to the ambulance service.

Newquay Coastguard said anyone who sees somebody in difficulty around the coast should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
