Thousands expected for national surf life saving championships

Thousands of competitors and supporters are expected at Holywell Bay for the 2026 Surf Life Saving National Beach Championships.

The event runs from Saturday 15 August until Saturday 22 August, beginning with the Masters competition before the Youth and Nippers events.

Holywell Bay Surf Life Saving Club said volunteers had spent hundreds of hours preparing the beach and event village for the championships.

Club chairman Steve Peck thanked everyone involved, saying the club had been “overwhelmed with the amount of energy and goodwill” shown during the preparations.

He said: “We hope everyone feels welcome to come along, watch and enjoy the event village — even those new to the sport.

“Maybe even feel inspired to sign up, no matter your age.”

Food and refreshments will be available throughout the week, alongside a programme of live music and other evening entertainment.

The event village will include SS Francia, a bar named after the ship wrecked at Holywell Bay, while performers will include Shorefire, Emily Howard, The Strutts and Emily and Luke Spurrell.

The club is also holding a fundraising raffle and selling event merchandise through its website.
