Newquay music studio appeals for support to help emerging musicians

A Newquay music school and recording studio is appealing for donations to improve its facilities and create more opportunities for young and emerging musicians across Cornwall.

The Studios, based in Bank Street, hopes to raise £5,000 towards the first phase of a recording studio upgrade.

The organisation, which has been operating since 2016, says access to professional recording equipment, mentoring and industry guidance can be difficult and expensive for musicians starting their careers.

The proposed improvements include upgraded recording equipment, acoustic treatment, a dedicated vocal recording booth and facilities for producing video and photographic content.

Nadine Finney, who runs The Studios, said the investment would help local musicians develop their skills and produce professional recordings.

The Studios provides music lessons, rehearsal space and recording facilities, and says it has supported hundreds of students and musicians since opening.

It also works with organisations supporting disadvantaged young people and those with additional needs.

Its annual Giveback Concert raises money for school music departments across Cornwall.

Plans for artist development programme

The fundraising campaign forms part of a longer-term plan to expand opportunities for emerging artists.

The Studios hopes to launch its Elevate Artist Accelerator Programme in 2027, offering selected musicians support with recording, music production, promotional materials, mentoring and live performance opportunities.

The organisation says the aim is to help grassroots artists develop the skills and industry connections needed to build sustainable careers.

Alongside public donations, the business plans to invest its own money in the improvements.

Supporters are also being encouraged to contribute equipment, offer industry expertise or help publicise the campaign.

The fundraiser, called Support Grassroots Music Development in Cornwall, is available on GoFundMe.
