Quintrell Road closes for three weeks as Nansledan roadworks begin

Quintrell Road in Newquay has closed for nearly three weeks as work begins on a series of road safety improvements around Nansledan.

The road is closed 24 hours a day between the Nansledan roundabout and Rialton Road until Friday 13 November.

The closure, which began on Monday (26 October), is the first phase of a programme of improvements that will continue until April next year.

Access to Nansledan remains available via Stret Euther Penndragon, while temporary traffic lights are in place to allow vehicles to enter and leave Stret Kosti Veur Woles.

The one-way system on Rialton Road has also been temporarily suspended, with three-way temporary traffic lights introduced at its junction with the A3059.

Cornwall Council says the changes are designed to help traffic move around the area while Quintrell Road is closed.

Local bus services are also being diverted during the works.

Pedestrian safety improvements

The scheme includes the installation of a new signal-controlled pedestrian crossing, a zebra crossing, widened pedestrian refuge islands and improvements to existing crossing points.

Cornwall Council says the improvements have been developed in response to feedback from the local community about pedestrian safety and accessibility around the growing Nansledan development.

The works are being carried out by Cormac in several phases, with sections of Quintrell Road, Airport Road, William Hosking Road and Stret Euther Penndragon all affected over the coming months.

Further road closures planned

The programme includes the following closures and restrictions:

  • 26 October – 13 November 2026: Quintrell Road (A3058) closed 24 hours a day.

  • 18 January – 1 February 2027: Airport Road (A3059) closed 24 hours a day.

  • 1 February – 15 February 2027: William Hosking Road (A3058) closed 24 hours a day.

  • 15 February – 5 March 2027: Stret Euther Penndragon closed 24 hours a day.

  • 8 March – 19 March 2027: Signing, lighting and guarding works on Stret Euther Penndragon.

  • 22 March – 7 April 2027: Final road surfacing works, requiring further closures and four-way temporary traffic lights at various locations.

  • 22 March – 9 April 2027: Signing, lighting and guarding works continuing on Quintrell Road.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time for journeys and follow the signed diversions while the improvements are carried out.
