Major road closures planned as Nansledan safety improvements to get underway

Road safety improvements in Nansledan are set to get underway later this month, with a series of major road closures planned between October and April next year.

Cornwall Council says the scheme, which begins on Monday 26 October, will improve pedestrian safety and accessibility around the development, including the installation of a new signal-controlled pedestrian crossing, a zebra crossing, widened pedestrian refuge islands and improvements to existing crossing points.

The works will be carried out by Cormac in several phases, with sections of Quintrell Road, Airport Road, William Hosking Road and Stret Euther Penndragon all affected.

The council says the improvements have been developed in response to feedback from the local community about pedestrian crossing facilities and accessibility.

Road closures and dates

The programme includes the following closures and restrictions:

  • 26 October – 13 November 2026: Quintrell Road (A3058) will be closed 24 hours a day.

  • 18 January – 1 February 2027: Airport Road (A3059) will be closed 24 hours a day.

  • 1 February – 15 February 2027: William Hosking Road (A3058) will be closed 24 hours a day.

  • 15 February – 5 March 2027: Stret Euther Penndragon will be closed 24 hours a day.

  • 8 March – 19 March 2027: Signing, lighting and guarding works will take place on Stret Euther Penndragon.

  • 22 March – 7 April 2027: Final road surfacing works will take place, requiring further road closures and four-way temporary traffic lights at various locations.

  • 22 March – 9 April 2027: Signing, lighting and guarding works will continue on Quintrell Road.

During the first two phases, the existing one-way system on Rialton Road will be temporarily suspended.

Access through the working area will be restricted to buses only, with three-way temporary traffic lights in operation to manage vehicle movements.

Access for residents and businesses

Cornwall Council says signed diversion routes will be provided where necessary, while pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the works.

Access to homes and businesses within the affected areas will continue wherever it is safe and practical.

However, the council warns that some activities, particularly the final surfacing works, will result in increased noise, temporary traffic delays and changes to normal travel routes.

The project has been coordinated alongside other major infrastructure schemes in the area, including the Mid Cornwall Metro and utility works.

Cornwall Council says: "We appreciate that roadworks can be inconvenient and thank residents and businesses for their patience while these improvements are completed."

The authority says the finished scheme will provide safer and more convenient pedestrian routes and a clearer road layout for all highway users.

Residents can find further information about road closures and diversions through one.network or the Cormac website.
