Major roadworks which are expected to continue until the end of January have begun at a busy roundabout in Newquay.
Four-way temporary traffic lights are in operation at the Nansledan roundabout, where William Hosking Road meets Quintrell Road and the A3059.
The traffic management has caused significant delays in all directions, including queues on Quintrell Road and Henver Road for traffic heading out of Newquay.
The works began on Monday 5 October and are expected to continue until the end of January 2027.
Residents surprised by works
The start of the scheme came as a surprise to some residents and businesses in the area.
In correspondence seen by Radio Newquay, the Duchy of Cornwall told some nearby residents that the work would involve temporary traffic lights and a half-lane closure.
The letter, dated 25 September, said: "Our works are due to start week commencing Monday 5th October 2026, with completion anticipated for the end of January 2027. We will keep you updated on progress over the coming months."
It said the scheme would include the installation of a footpath, kerbs and verges, the relocation of streetlights and signage, a dry-wall stone hedge around the gas governor and minor storm drainage works.
Tarmac and white lining work will also be carried out.
The Duchy said footpaths would remain open during the work, with working hours from 07:30 to 17:00, Monday to Friday.
It added: "We will endeavour to minimise disruption during this period."
Radio Newquay has contacted the Duchy of Cornwall for further information about the works and the traffic disruption. We have not yet received a response.
