Newquay crash out of FA Vase as St Mawgan continue winning run

Newquay AFC crashed out of the FA Vase, St Mawgan continued their impressive run of form and Newquay Hornets were forced to concede their rugby fixture on a mixed weekend of local sport.

The Peppermints suffered a disappointing 4-1 home defeat to Sturminster Newton at Mount Wise on Saturday, bringing their FA Vase campaign to an end in the first round proper.

Jack Bray-Evans scored a late consolation for Newquay, but it wasn't enough to prevent their exit from the competition.

There was better news in the South West Peninsula League, where St Mawgan continued their excellent recent form with a 4-2 victory away to Sticker.

In the St Piran League, Newquay Reserves were held to a 2-2 draw at Kilkhampton, while Goonhavern secured a convincing 3-0 win over St Buryan.

In women's football, Newquay's scheduled trip to Ilminster Town was postponed. They will now turn their attention to a home fixture against Ridgeway on Sunday.

Hornets forced to concede

In rugby, an injury-hit Newquay Hornets side were forced to concede their away fixture against Penryn because of a shortage of available players.

Meanwhile, in hockey, both Newquay women's teams picked up points against Caradon opposition.

The first team drew 2-2 away to Caradon, while the second team recorded an identical result at home against another side from the same club.

Newquay Bomb set for ring return

And in boxing, Newquay's Brad Pauls is preparing for a return to the ring.

The fighter, affectionately known as the 'Newquay Bomb', has been confirmed for the Coast to Coast boxing show in Torquay on Friday, 13 November.

The event will mark another outing for the former British middleweight champion.
