The RNLI is reminding people to take extra care around the coast this winter as its lifeguard patrols come to an end on beaches across Newquay and Cornwall.
The charity's lifeguards finished their final patrols for the 2026 season on Sunday.
With beaches no longer routinely patrolled, the RNLI is encouraging residents and visitors to take responsibility for their safety when visiting the coast over the coming months.
The charity advises people to always carry a mobile phone, check weather forecasts and tide times before heading out, and avoid entering the water if they are unsure about the conditions.
Anyone who gets into difficulty in the water is urged to follow the RNLI's Float to Live advice, which involves floating on their back to help control their breathing and conserve energy.
In an emergency, people should call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard.
The RNLI is also thanking its lifeguards for their work throughout the summer season, helping to keep beachgoers safe at some of Cornwall's busiest coastal locations.
The charity's message for the winter months is simple: if in doubt about the conditions, don't go out.
The seasonal service finished on Sunday across Cornwall's beaches, including at Mawgan Porth, Towan, Crantock and Watergate Bay, as well as Fistral.
