Newquay to mark Remembrance Sunday with parade and service

Newquay will mark Remembrance Sunday with a parade through the town centre and a service at St Michael's Church on Sunday.

The annual parade, organised by the Royal British Legion, will bring together veterans, Armed Forces personnel, emergency services representatives, dignitaries and community groups to remember those who lost their lives in conflict.

Participants will gather at Fore Street Car Park from 09:45 GMT, with the parade setting off at 10:00.

It will make its way through the town centre to St Michael's Church, where it is expected to arrive at approximately 10:30 ahead of the Service of Remembrance.

Newquay Town Council said rolling road closures would operate between 09:45 and 10:45, with roads reopening as soon as the parade has passed and it is safe to do so.

Most roads are expected to be affected for no longer than 15 minutes.

Roads affected

The temporary restrictions will affect Central Street at the Manor Road junction, East Street, Trebarwith Crescent, Manor Road, Marcus Hill, Bank Street, The Crescent, Gover Lane, Chapel Hill, Beachfield Avenue, King Street, Beach Road, Cheltenham Place and Fore Street from the Alma Place junction.

Manor Road Car Park will also be affected.

Motorists are being warned that there will be no vehicle access to or from Manor Car Park between 09:45 and 10:45.

Anyone attending the parade or church service is advised to allow extra time for their journey and arrive before the restrictions begin.

Alternative parking is available elsewhere in the town.

Armistice Day ceremony

Newquay will also mark Armistice Day on Wednesday 11 November with a flag-raising ceremony hosted by the Mayor of Newquay, Councillor Drew Creek.

The event will take place outside the Municipal Offices on Marcus Hill from 09:30 and is expected to last around 30 minutes.

The ceremony will provide an opportunity for residents and visitors to remember those who have served and sacrificed in conflicts past and present.

Newquay Town Council has thanked residents, businesses and visitors for their patience during the commemorations and encouraged members of the public to attend.
