Newquay students celebrate A-level results

Young people across Newquay have been collecting their A-level and vocational qualification results.

Newquay Tretherras said it had achieved the strongest A-level results in the school’s history, while Treviglas Academy reported that students had secured places at their chosen universities.

At Tretherras, 66% of A-level grades were between A* and B, with 30% awarded at A* or A. The average grade was a B.

The school also reported strong results across its applied and technical qualifications, with students achieving an average grade of Distinction* minus.

More than half of those grades were Distinction*, while almost 97% were either Distinction* or Distinction.

Headteacher Gemma Harries said: “We could not be prouder of this year’s students.

“Their results are exceptional, but what makes this cohort particularly special is everything they have achieved alongside their studies.

“Their leadership and character make them outstanding ambassadors for our school and our community.”

Alongside their studies, students took part in experiences including a trip to Borneo, Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards and the Winter Skills Challenge.

Students secure university places

At Treviglas Academy, students have secured places at universities and colleges across the country.

Jo Hanford, head of sixth form, said students would be studying a wide range of courses, with destinations including Lancaster, Bath, an agricultural college and Newcastle University.

She said one student had received an offer to study law at Newcastle, while others had exceeded expectations in the number of UCAS points they achieved.

Ms Hanford said: “All the students worked incredibly hard, and they have got their just desserts.

“We’re very excited and very happy with what they’ve achieved. They’ve got into their universities of choice.”
