Newquay Band has been awarded £500 by the Newquay Lottery Community Grant scheme, becoming the second group this month to receive support.
The funding will help the band’s new training programme, providing free tuition, music, and instruments for anyone wishing to learn a brass instrument. It will also go towards purchasing uniforms and new music. In their application, the band said: "This funding will significantly enrich our community’s musical offerings and foster a deeper appreciation for brass band music."
The band will perform a free community Christmas concert tonight (Friday, 20 December) at St Michael's Church in Newquay. The event will feature festive music from both Newquay Band and Mount Charles Band. Treasurer David Becker said: “We’ll be playing Christmas classics old and new. It’s totally free, and we want to fill the church as much as we can.” The concert begins at 7:30pm.
Last week, Newquay Surf Life Saving Club also received a £500 grant from the scheme.
