New pictures released of Mount Wise Gardens play park

New pictures have been released of Newquay’s new Mount Wise Gardens play park ahead of its official opening next month.

Residents and visitors are being invited to the opening event on Wednesday 2 September, from 12pm until 2pm.

The new park has been built over the summer by playground specialist Wicksteed, following consultation with the community.

Newquay Town Council said it features modern, accessible and inclusive equipment intended to provide play opportunities for children of different ages and abilities.

Mayor of Newquay Drew Creek will officially open the park, with free refreshments available during the event.

A final independent safety inspection is due to take place on 27 August. Subject to its outcome, the park could open to the public before the official event, although a date has not yet been confirmed.

Work began in May as part of a wider regeneration scheme for Mount Wise Gardens.

The project includes a £150,000 investment in the play park, funded by Boardmasters and Community Infrastructure Levy contributions from developers.

Councillor Creek previously described the facility as “an investment in our children’s futures”. He said it would create the first central play park within easy walking distance of Newquay town centre.

Newquay Town Council’s Estates Team has since been carrying out safety checks, completing finishing touches and cutting back overgrown vegetation around the gardens.

Dan Watkin, the council’s Director of Operations, said community feedback had played an important part in shaping the final scheme.

He said: “We are proud to deliver a new play space that is inclusive, engaging and designed to serve the local community for many years to come.

“We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors to the opening event and seeing Mount Wise Gardens become an even more vibrant focal point for the community.”

Once the park opens, people will be able to report any snagging issues or provide feedback by emailing hello@newquay.gov.uk.
