Boardmasters launches competition to showcase emerging artists

Boardmasters Festival 2026 has launched a new competition aimed at giving emerging artists from the South West the chance to perform on the festival’s Main Stage this summer.

The initiative, called Boardmasters Breaking, is open to vocalists, bands, DJs and artists of any genre or age who are from, or based in, the South West.

The festival takes place from 5th to 9th August at Watergate Bay and Fistral Beach in Newquay.

Organisers say the competition has been designed to showcase regional talent and provide a platform at one of Cornwall’s largest cultural events.

The winner will perform an opening slot on the Main Stage on Sunday 9th August and will also receive festival access, artist area access on the day of the performance, and professionally filmed content from their set.

Applications will be reviewed by the Boardmasters team, with the final winner selected by BBC Introducing. The successful act will be announced on Monday 25th May.

This year’s festival line-up includes Lily Allen, Fatboy Slim, Kasabian, The Kooks, Loyle Carner, Rudimental, REN, Tash Sultana and Joy Crookes.

The event will also feature World Surf League competitions, alongside wellness, creative and community activities.
