People can take a few minutes out of their day to pause, listen and focus on their wellbeing.
The Echo Point bench, located at Newquay Orchard, uses sound to create a calming experience designed to help people relax and reconnect with their surroundings. Visitors can sit and listen to a specially created soundscape lasting just over five minutes and it's solar powered.
Radio Newquay's Mark Chapple visited the installation and spoke to Belinda from Newquay Orchard about how people are using the bench. PRESS PLAY to listen to his report...
Echo Point was created by artist Nigel Wiggan and uses carefully curated sounds to influence breathing, reduce agitation and help build resilience within communities. The project aims to support people experiencing stress, anxiety or other mental health challenges by providing a dedicated space where they can step away from everyday pressures and focus on the sounds around them.

The installation is designed to be accessible to everyone, regardless of age or background. Its creators say it encourages conversations about mental health while helping people feel more connected to their communities. Community sounds are often incorporated into the experience, helping users feel represented and valued.
Echo Point has been described as a sonic safe space, using sound to help redirect negative thoughts towards more positive ones. The project is intended to support people during difficult periods, moments of vulnerability or simply when they need a few minutes of calm.
Even the wood used to create the bench has a story to tell after it was donated by Newquay Tretherras.
