Newquay Sessions to return with free First Wave event on the Killacourt

The first event in this year's free Newquay Sessions concerts is set to take place in July, bringing live music, entertainment and safety advice to the heart of the town.

Newquay Town Council has announced further details of the First Wave, which will be held on the Killacourt on Saturday 4 July from 10am until 6pm.

The free event will feature live performances from Chris Hogg and The Qwest, while The Poptastic Party Show – featuring music by Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan – has joined the line-up.

Radio Newquay will also be broadcasting live from the event, with part of its output coming directly from the Killacourt.

Visitors will be able to enjoy the family-friendly event free of charge, with no tickets required. A licensed bar will also be available on site.

The event coincides with a busy day in the town, including the BIG Newquay Market, which runs from 10am until 4pm across the Killacourt and Bank Street, and the Newquay Carnival, which begins at 6pm.

Ahead of the peak summer season, Newquay Town Council says it will use the event to promote summer and beach safety messages in partnership with local organisations, charities and activity providers.

Among those attending will be Alan Cox, Water Safety Officer for Newquay Lifeboats.

He said: "I think it is very important to engage with families, especially visitors who don’t quite understand the dangers on and around the sea and beach.

"After a lot of recent events, which have ended badly, I urge the public just to pop to the water safety stall for some free advice on cold water shock, our float to live campaign, and beach safety.

"This messaging could save your life, not just for beachgoers, but everyone from swimmers to SUPs and kayakers, please help us to help you and we will see you there."

The Newquay Sessions programme features a series of free events throughout the summer aimed at bringing live music, entertainment and community activities to the town centre.
