An award-winning Newquay artist has claimed another accolade after winning a public vote as part of a new mural trail project in the town.
Newquay BID says nearly 1,900 votes were cast during the competition, which saw local artists work with businesses to create artwork across the town centre.
Diane Griffiths took first place with her piece Island After Dark, inspired by Newquay’s coastline and harbour at night. She previously picked up awards for her nighttime paintings of the Texaco garage on Trevemper Road and the Playland Amusements on Cliff Road.
Second place went to Saskia Taskis for Sunset at the Headland, while Gemma Carson finished third with a mural celebrating Newquay Harbour.
Organisers said the top three entries were separated by just 24 votes.
The project, organised by Newquay BID, has seen QR codes installed at the artworks, allowing people to follow the trail and find out more about the artists and installations around the town.
Newquay BID says the mural trail has generated strong interest on social media and from local businesses, with discussions already underway about making the project an annual event.
