Seasonal parking charges are set to change at South Fistral car park in Newquay
Newquay Town Council has published a statutory public notice outlining revised tariffs for South Fistral Car Park, due to take effect from 1 June 2026.
The changes include "small increases" to seasonal parking charges. Parking between 1 April and 31 October will see the hourly rate increase from £1.00 to £1.20. The existing two to three hour and three to four hour tariffs, currently £3.50 and £4.80 respectively, will be replaced by a single two to four hour band costing £5.00.
However, the council says it will also introduce free parking during the winter period to support residents and encourage off-season use.
Despite the adjustments, the council says charges will remain around 10% lower than those at comparable car parks run by Cornwall Council.
The proposals are set out in a Notice of Variation issued under Section 35C of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, with the consent of Cornwall Council. They form part of the Newquay Town Council (Off Street Parking Places) Order 2022, as amended.
Full details of the revised charges are available in the statutory public notice.
South Fistral Car Park is operated by Newquay Town Council, which says the introduction of free winter parking aims to balance seasonal visitor demand with greater year-round benefit for the local community.\
