A Newquay woman is preparing to take on the iconic London Marathon this weekend, just 18 months after being diagnosed with a rare form of arthritis.
Michelle Barriball, a long-time member of Newquay Roadrunners, was given a place through a disability initiative and will be running in support of Versus Arthritis. Despite living with psoriatic arthritis, Michelle is determined to complete the race, using a run-walk strategy known as ‘jeffing’ to manage fatigue and joint pain along the way.
According to the NHS, around 1 in 4 patients with psoriasis develop psoriatic arthritis. In most cases, skin symptoms appear before joint problems, though in some cases, they may start at the same time or even after.
