A Newquay church will keep its warm and community space open for another 12 months after securing lottery funding.
St Michael's Church has been awarded funding for the hub, which was originally opened to provide a warm place for people to go during the colder months of the cost of living crisis.
Each week it supports between 30 and 50 people, offering more than just warmth - including Wi-Fi, device charging, signposting to local support, and companionship.
Warm Space Co-ordinator Gareth expressed pride in the project's ongoing success:
"Over the last 15 months, St Michael’s has provided a safe, warm space for people of all ages - from the homeless and families to those simply in need of companionship. It’s been a place for refreshments, peacefulness, and meaningful connection. Each week, the church supports between 30 to 50 individuals."
Churchwarden Rachel Craze added:
"St Michael’s Church is at the centre of Newquay - it is Newquay’s church, for Newquay’s community. We are hoping more locals and visitors will come inside and use our space."
The new funding ensures the service can continue while also supporting additional applications for family-focused events. Plans include monthly Saturday morning drop-in sessions with activities and games for children aged 5 to 11, school holiday sessions for families, and expanding access to the space for local schools.
