Organisers of the New Year’s Day dip at Newquay Harbour say this year’s event raised nearly £5,000 for the children’s cancer charity Young Lives vs Cancer.
More than 400 participants took part in the twelfth annual event, many wearing fancy dress or swimwear, as they ran into the sea watched on by thousands of supporters around the harbour. The official countdown was led by the town crier with the help of Newquay Mayor - Councillor Drew Creek, while volunteer lifeguards from Newquay Surf Life Saving Club oversaw the dip.
Organisers said the total raised is the highest to date, with funds coming from entry fees, sponsorship, donations and food and drink sales. The money will go directly towards providing care and support for children undergoing cancer treatment and their families.
Event organisers Jos and Andy Cole thanked the large number of volunteers, local organisations and businesses who helped make the day possible, including the RNLI and community groups from across Newquay. With the event now firmly established on the town’s New Year calendar, planning is already underway for a larger dip in 2027.
