Surfing England has announced a new date for its 2026 English National Surfing Championships Under-16 and Under-18 shortboard event after this weekend’s competition was cancelled.
Organisers said the decision was made due to “marginal conditions” in the forecast, with wave heights expected to reach just 1–2ft and low energy levels.
In a statement, Surfing England said: “For our elite level athletes, we want quality conditions to showcase their surfing talent.”
The event, which was due to take place at Fistral Beach, will now be held on Saturday 13 June, with a backup date of Sunday 14 June.
All confirmed competitors will have their entries transferred to the new date. Those unable to attend have been told they can request a full refund.
Surfing England thanked competitors, families and supporters for their understanding and said an updated event format and terms and conditions had been published.
The organisation also confirmed that registration is open for the Kukuna Pro Junior competition, open to surfers aged under 21, which is scheduled to take place at Watergate Bay on Tuesday 26 May, with a backup date of Wednesday 27 May.
