Gig rowers in Newquay have been praised for their “quick actions” after rescuing a casualty from the water near the harbour.
According to Newquay Coastguard, emergency services were called at 8:21am on Bank Holiday Monday (6 April).
Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team, RNLI lifeboats, Devon and Cornwall Police and South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust were all tasked to the incident near Newquay Harbour.
A spokesperson said: “Credit to NRC Newquay Gig Club Rowing for their quick actions and thank you also to members of the public for all their assistance this morning.”
All crews were stood down once the casualty was safely transferred into the care of the ambulance service.
Meanwhile, coastguard volunteers were also called out on Saturday evening (4 April) following concern for two kayakers in the Gannel.
The kayakers were found making their way ashore on the south side of Gannel Estuary after experiencing difficulty in the conditions.
Team members confirmed neither required medical attention and helped them continue back towards their accommodation.
Members of the public were thanked for raising the alarm, with a reminder that anyone spotting someone in difficulty along the coast should call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
