Newquay charity launches nationwide challenge for children's mental health Surf Therapy programme.
The Wave Project, a Newquay-based charity, has kicked off a nationwide fundraising challenge to support its Surf Therapy programs, which focus on improving children's mental health. Dubbed the "Get On Board" challenge, this initiative encourages participants across the UK to raise £18,000, mirroring the 18,000-kilometre length of the country's coastline.
Participants are invited to take part by engaging in activities involving any type of board. From traditional surf pop-ups to more creative efforts like hosting Cheese Board Nights, the challenge has inspired a wide range of imaginative contributions.
One participant shared their motivation for joining the challenge: “As I spend a lot of my free time stood on a board in the sea, I figured I should put it to good use other than for my obsession! I’m going to challenge myself to paddle 120km on the sea by the end of September for a charity that combines two of my passions; young people’s mental wellbeing and Surf/SUP Therapy."
Susie Croft, Head of Fundraising at The Wave Project, expressed her excitement: "We're thrilled to see the creativity and enthusiasm of our participants. From artists to builders, water sports enthusiasts to board game aficionados, people from all walks of life are coming together to support us."
There is still time to get involved, with the challenge offering flexibility for those unable to commit to a full month. Individuals can set personal targets or team up with friends, colleagues, or classmates to reach collective goals.
