Newquay AFC continue strong start as national surfing titles decided at Watergate Bay

Newquay AFC and their reserves have both recorded victories, while St Newlyn East staged a cup comeback and some of England's leading surfers battled for national titles at Watergate Bay.

The Peppermints continued their strong start to the Western League Premier Division season with a 3-1 victory over Shepton Mallet at Mount Wise.

Jacob Kevern, Matt Searle and Louis Price were all on target for Newquay, with the result leaving the club seventh in the table after its opening seven fixtures.

Newquay AFC Reserves also enjoyed a winning afternoon, securing a 2-0 victory away to Millbrook Reserves in the St Piran League.

Elsewhere, St Newlyn East progressed in the George Evely Cup after producing an impressive comeback at Lovells Park.

They came from a goal down to beat St Dominick 3-1 in the first round of the competition.

Meanwhile, national surfing titles have been decided at Watergate Bay during the 2026 Stand Up Paddle and Longboard National Championships.

Reggie Roynon claimed two titles, winning both the Under-18 Boys and Men's Open Longboard competitions.

Sylvie Puddiphatt took the Under-18 Girls Longboard title, while Beth Leighfield was crowned Women's Open Longboard champion.

In the Stand Up Paddle Surf competition, Christina Margaret Alecha Doviak won the Women's Open title, with Marcio Franca Dias taking the Men's Open crown.
