Double title for Reggie Roynon as national surfing champions crowned at Watergate Bay

Reggie Roynon - Men's Open and U18 Boys Longboard winner

National surfing champions have been crowned after a day of challenging conditions at Watergate Bay.

The 2026 Dryrobe SUP and Longboard National Championships, organised by Surfing England and supported by the Caravan and Motorhome Club, brought some of the country's leading longboard and stand-up paddleboard surfers to the beach.

Competitors faced a large, pushing tide and occasional bigger sets, with Surfing England describing the standard of surfing across the event as "exceptional".

Reggie Roynon was one of the standout performers, securing two national titles by winning both the Men's Open and U18 Boys Longboard competitions.

The success comes ahead of Roynon travelling to Bundoran in Ireland later this month as part of the Team England Junior squad.

He will be joined by Sylvie Puddiphatt, who was crowned U18 Girls Longboard champion at Watergate Bay.

Beth Leighfield won a closely fought Women's Open Longboard final, finishing ahead of Mali Harbour and Lola Bleakley.

Leighfield is due to represent Team England at the ISA World Longboard Championship in El Salvador later this year.

In the Men's Open SUP Surf competition, defending champion Marcio Franca Dias retained the title after progressing through the heats in difficult conditions.

Christina Margaret Alecha Doviak took the Women's Open SUP Surf title, ahead of Emily Earp, Rebecca Stott and Alexi Stott.

Surfing England said the championships had showcased the strength of the country's SUP and longboard surfing community, with competitors ranging from junior athletes to families competing alongside each other.

The organisation thanked competitors, sponsors, partners and those involved in staging the championships at Watergate Bay.
