Trenance Road in Newquay has been closed after a gas leak was discovered beneath the road.
Wales & West Utilities says it is carrying out repairs in the area, after the road was closed on Tuesday at its junctions with Edgcumbe Avenue and Trevemper Road.
A diversion route is in place while engineers work to fix the problem.
A spokesperson said: “We do not yet know how long our work will take. Our engineers are working as safely and as quickly as possible to fix this leak, which is being constantly monitored. There has been no impact on local gas supplies.
“We’re sorry for the disruption that our work will cause. However, it’s important that we fix this leak as soon as possible. We appreciate the patience and understanding of local people while we carry out this essential repair.”
