Firefighters were called to deal with a fire at a fish and chip shop in Newquay this afternoon (Tuesday 15 April)
Two appliances and the Aerial Ladder Platform attended the incident at the Cod End on Cliff Road, next to the busy Aldi store.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing crews at the scene shortly after 2pm.
All staff and customers are understood to have been evacuated safely.
Traffic in the area was impacted with queues on Cliff Road and delays reported on surrounding roads including Narrowcliff, East Street and Berry Road.
A clean-up operation is underway and the shop's owner says they will be temporarily closed while insurers assess the premises, but they hope to reopen as soon as possible. Radio Newquay will let you know when The Cod End reopens its doors to the public.
