One of Newquay’s best-known hotels has been sold to a Cornish hospitality group which operates several high-end venues across the Duchy.
The Atlantic Hotel has been purchased by the Cornwall Hotel Collection, which also owns The Greenbank, The Falmouth and The Alverton.
The company said the acquisition marked “an exciting and meaningful step” for the group.
It said: “Joining The Greenbank, The Falmouth and The Alverton, The Atlantic Hotel marks an exciting and meaningful step for our collection – one rooted not only in growth, but in care, heritage and a shared love for Cornwall.”
The group added that its approach would focus on preserving the building’s character while planning for its long-term future.
It said: “As with each of our hotels, this moment is about more than adding another destination to the map. At The Cornwall Hotel Collection, we believe these buildings hold stories worth preserving. Our role is to care for them thoughtfully – protecting their character while ensuring they continue to thrive for generations to come.
“Following the careful and considered restoration currently underway at The Falmouth, plans for The Atlantic will take a similarly gentle approach. A phased programme will honour the hotel’s heritage while enhancing comfort and experience, always with a light touch and long-term vision.”
Managing director Ben Young said the company was “absolutely thrilled” to bring the hotel into its portfolio.
He said: “Newquay is a place of extraordinary natural beauty – the light, the coastline, the energy of the town – and The Atlantic sits at the very heart of it all.
“As Cornish hoteliers, we feel a deep responsibility to care for the county’s historic landmarks. These hotels are part of Cornwall’s story. Our aim is always to honour their heritage while securing their future.
“The progress we’re seeing at The Falmouth demonstrates what can be achieved with patience, respect and long-term vision, and we’re excited to bring that same careful restoration to The Atlantic. Just as importantly, we are committed to keeping the hotel’s feet firmly planted in local interests – working with local suppliers, supporting local jobs, and ensuring the hotel continues to be a place the community feels proud of.
“This is not just about growth; it’s about stewardship. We’re looking forward to becoming part of Newquay’s community and to beginning this next chapter for such an iconic hotel.”
The Atlantic Hotel was put up for sale in January 2023 after 37 years of family ownership.
