A consultation has been launched on proposals to implement a 20 mph speed limit across a majority of Newquay's residential streets.
Cormac, which is leading the consultation, says these areas have previously expressed strong local support for the speed reduction measures. The proposals cover the Newquay and St Columb Community Network Area, including neighbouring areas such as Watergate Bay.
20 mph zones already exist on many roads in the town. Maps which form part of the consultation detail the zones where residential streets would fall under the new speed limit. However, several major routes, including Henver Road, Quintrell Road, Edgcumbe Avenue, Mount Wise, Treloggan Road, The Narrowcliff, Cliff Road, and the approaches to Quintrell Downs, are not part of the plan and will retain their current speed limits.
Cormac says the 20 mph limit would contribute towards improving road safety, particularly for vulnerable road users, while supporting Cornwall Council's 'Vision Zero' goal, which seeks to prevent all fatal and serious injuries on the county’s road network.
