Passengers travelling to and from Newquay are being warned of disruption this month as part of major railway improvement works.
No trains will run between Wednesday 10 and Sunday 14 September while work takes place on the Mid Cornwall Metro scheme.
Replacement buses will operate between Newquay and St Austell, with most stopping at intermediate stations including Quintrell Downs, St Columb Road, Roche, Bugle and Luxulyan. Trains will continue to run at Par, providing connections to Plymouth and Penzance.
The £50m Mid Cornwall Metro scheme is funded by the government and Cornwall Council, and is being delivered by Network Rail in partnership with Great Western Railway (GWR). It is designed to improve rail links across the county.
Sharon Holloway, GWR station manager for West Cornwall, said: “While the line is closed, no trains can stop at Newquay or nearby stations, so we’re asking customers to check before they travel and allow more time for their journeys.
“Replacement buses will operate between Newquay and St Austell, with some direct services running at peak times.”
George Collinson, lead portfolio manager at Network Rail, said the work would provide “a significant boost to rail travel in the Duchy”.
Passengers are advised to check for the latest updates before travelling at GWR.com/Upgrade.
