Police launch amnesty after gun reclassification

Devon and Cornwall Police have launched a firearms amnesty following the reclassification of certain type of gun.

The Turkish Top Venting Blank Firing Guns, including models from Retay, Ekol, Ceonic ISSC, and Blow, have been found to be readily convertible to fire live ammunition. As a result, imports were banned in August 2024, and local retailers were advised to stop selling them in October.

As part of the amnesty, individuals and organisations can surrender these firearms at police stations across Devon and Cornwall between 3 and 28 February 2025. Those handing them in will not face prosecution for possession of a prohibited weapon.

Police say they have worked with retailers to ensure these guns are no longer available for purchase. Chief Inspector Alexander Cooper emphasised that gun crime in the region remains low, but the force is taking proactive steps to prevent these weapons from being misused.

Anyone in possession of one of these firearms is urged to surrender it at their local police station before the end of the month-long amnesty.
