Plans to redevelop one of Newquay’s most prominent buildings, the former Hotel Victoria, along with neighbouring properties including the Griffin Inn, are set to be unveiled later this month.
The Nicolas James Group has confirmed it has completed its acquisition of the seafront hotel, which closed in November 2023, and is now inviting residents to view early proposals and provide feedback.
While detailed designs have not yet been published, the developer says it intends to restore and modernise the site as part of a “high-quality development that honours the hotel’s heritage while offering modern amenities and new housing.”
The group’s plans cover the Hotel Victoria and surrounding buildings including Señor Dicks, Bertie’s nightclub and the Griffin Inn. The hotel itself would become part of the company’s award-winning NICI brand, which already operates a hotel in Bournemouth.
A public consultation event will be held at the Hotel Victoria on Monday 23 June, from 2pm to 7:30pm. The Nicolas James Group says the event is an opportunity for local residents to learn more about the proposed redevelopment, meet the project team and share their views.
Chairman of the Nicolas James Group, Nicolas Roach, said:
“We are incredibly excited to share our vision for the Hotel Victoria and surrounding area. This is a truly unique opportunity to breathe new life into a landmark building and surrounding area, and we are committed to ensuring the redevelopment benefits everyone.
“We urge all members of the community to come along, view the plans, and share their thoughts with us. Your feedback is crucial in shaping a successful future for the Hotel Victoria and for Newquay.”
No parking will be available at the hotel for the consultation event, apart from designated disabled spaces.
Further information will be published on the project’s website following the event.
