Newquay Town Council says work will begin later this month on a new play park at Mount Wise Gardens.
The project includes a £150,000 investment in a brand-new play area, funded by Boardmasters and Community Infrastructure Levy contributions from developers.
Mayor Drew Creek previously said it would create the first central play park within easy walking distance of Newquay town centre and described it as “an investment in our children’s futures”.
The play park forms part of wider plans to improve Mount Wise Gardens following public consultation and engagement with the local community.
The council says the new play park will be inclusive, engaging and designed for people of all ages and abilities.
Wider improvements to the gardens are also planned, with the aim of encouraging outdoor activity, social interaction and greater use of the space by residents and visitors, while supporting health, wellbeing and community cohesion.
Dan Watkin, Director of Operations at Newquay Town Council, said: “We are eager to get started and to deliver on our Corporate Plan commitment to enhance community services within the town.
“This project represents a significant investment in our public spaces and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to listening to the community and responding with positive, practical action.
“We anticipate that this new facility will be available for residents and visitors to enjoy later this summer, and we look forward to seeing Mount Wise Gardens thrive as a renewed focal point for the community.”
