The Newquay Lottery Community Grant Scheme has awarded a £500 grant to Newquay Carnival.
The funding will support the return of Newquay Lions Community Carnival on Saturday 4 July, with this year’s theme announced as Carnival by the Coast.
The event made its comeback in 2025 after a five-year absence, having not returned following the Covid-19 pandemic. Organisers say this year’s carnival is set to build on that momentum.
The grant application was submitted by Alistair McKenna from the Newquay Lions Community Carnival Committee. He said the funding will help cover the costs of running the event and support the carnival’s schools project, which encourages school children in Newquay to get involved and take part.
This year’s carnival will include a family fun day on the Killacourt, featuring activities, games, food, entertainment and live music.
The organisers are now inviting individuals, community groups, local organisations and businesses to get involved, whether through sponsorship, hosting an event, joining the procession or offering other forms of support.
Anyone interested in taking part or supporting the 2026 carnival can contact the organisers by email at newquaycarnival@outlook.com.
The Newquay Lottery Community Grant Scheme awards funding each year to local good causes and also supports Radio Newquay, a not-for-profit service run by two part-time staff members and volunteers. Further information about taking part in the Newquay Lottery can be found here.
Two further grants from the 2024–2025 Community Grant Scheme are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
