Newquay boxer Brad Pauls has strengthened his hopes of a future world title shot after a stoppage victory in Manchester.
Pauls, known as “The Newquay Bomb”, defeated Sheffield’s Shakiel Thompson in the ninth round on the undercard of Moses Itauma v Jermaine Franklin fight at the Co-op Live Arena.
He had gone into the contest as the underdog, but produced a strong performance to stop 6ft 3 Thompson late on.
Speaking to Boxing Nation, Pauls said: “This is my fourth belt in my life, and it’s one of my favourites. There’s more to come.”
The win could move him closer to a shot at the IBF middleweight world title in the future.
He said he planned to celebrate with his family, enjoy pasties, and bring the belt back to Newquay to share with the community.
