A Newquay business group says it is continuing to push for improvements to infrastructure issues across the town following discussions with Cornwall Highways and Openreach.

Newquay BID says it has recently engaged directly with both Cornwall Highways and Openreach, including correspondence with Openreach’s chief executive, over concerns affecting parts of Newquay.

A walkaround of the town has now taken place involving Cornwall Highways representatives and Newquay mayor Drew Creek to highlight priority areas needing attention.

Newquay BID says concerns raised included town centre infrastructure, poor and unclear signage, dangerous signage and road markings which it says present safety risks.

One example highlighted was at Fore Street Car Park, where vehicles exiting and turning left towards Fore Street now have clearer indication of the “No Entry” restriction.

The organisation described the change as “a small win” but said it would continue pressing for improvements in other parts of the town.

Alongside this, Newquay BID says it has also been working with Openreach over vandalised telecoms boxes in the town centre.

Two telecoms boxes on Headland Road and Dane Road have now been repainted green.

The group says it is now exploring the possibility of murals and artwork being added to boxes using designs from local artists.

It says the aim would be to help discourage graffiti and improve the appearance of the town centre.

Newquay BID is encouraging residents to continue reporting infrastructure concerns to Cornwall Council Highways and Openreach through their online reporting systems.
