Wales & West Utilities say they are carrying out urgent work to upgrade the gas pipes in the Edgcumbe Gardens area of Newquay.
The work has been prioritised after monitoring has found a number of leaks on the network - the company say there is no risk to public safety.
Work began today and it is anticipated that it will be ongoing until early spring.
The closures include the Narrowcliff from outside the Marina Hotel to the junction with Hilgrove Road, Ulalia Road, from the junction with Narrowcliff to the rear of No 1 Ulalia Road and Colvreath Road, from the junction of Ulalia Road to the rear of Hotel Bristol. A spokesperson said the closures will be rolling and may stop and start at various times during the works.
Natalie Raphael from Wales & West Utilities is managing this gas pipe upgrade work. She said:
"We will continue to update the local community as the works progress.
"We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner, or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
