The first of three new murals in Newquay town centre has been completed following extra funding secured by Newquay BID.
The project aims to celebrate the town’s identity while bringing colour and creativity to public spaces and is funded from Cornwall Council’s Town Regeneration and Investment Programme (TRIP), part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The murals form part of the Newquay Mural Trail, which has been developed over the past year to encourage residents and visitors to explore the streets and enjoy art in everyday spaces.
The first mural, created by local artist Ben Allen on the side of Truscott’s on Fore Street, celebrates the town’s famous poppy fields at Polly Joke. The design uses bold colour and abstract forms to bring a sense of movement and life to the urban landscape, reflecting Newquay’s natural beauty.
Two further murals are planned across the town, with locations due to be announced in the coming weeks. All three artworks are scheduled for completion by the end of December and form part of BID’s wider efforts to enhance the town centre, support local creatives, and boost visitor engagement.
Mark Warren, Newquay BID Manager, said the funding would help the town stand out and drive footfall, while Slapdash Studios added that the murals reflect Newquay’s rich history and vibrant culture, bringing beauty and creativity to everyday spaces.
