Newquay has missed out on a place on the shortlist for the UK Town of Culture 2028 title.
Despite the disappointment, Newquay Town Council and Newquay Business Improvement District (BID) say the bid has strengthened partnerships across the town and highlighted the quality of its cultural offer.
It brought together businesses, community groups, organisations and volunteers around a shared vision to celebrate Newquay's creativity, heritage and community spirit.
Mark Warren, Manager of Newquay BID, said: "Whilst we are disappointed not to have been shortlisted, we would like to congratulate all of the towns that have progressed and wish them the very best of luck.
"We have a fabulous town and are incredibly grateful to the many Newquay Ambassadors who supported us throughout this process. It has shown just how much our town has achieved. We have amazing events throughout the year, delivered through the strong partnership between Newquay Town Council and Newquay BID, and we have exciting plans for the years ahead. We are very proud of everything Newquay has to offer."
Organisers say the bid has created new relationships and strengthened existing partnerships, providing a platform for future cultural projects.
They say missing out on the shortlist does not mark the end of the journey, but instead provides an opportunity to build on the momentum generated throughout the application process.
This weekend, Newquay is hosting two major events which organisers say demonstrate the town's cultural diversity. The Skateboard GB Championships are bringing some of the country's top skateboarders to the town, while the Newquay Food Festival is showcasing Cornwall's food, drink and hospitality sector.
Newquay Town Council and Newquay BID say the town's year-round programme of festivals, sporting events, markets, arts projects, heritage activities and community celebrations continues to grow, reflecting both its coastal identity and expanding permanent population.
The organisations thanked everyone who supported the Town of Culture bid, saying the partnerships formed during the process will continue to help strengthen Newquay's reputation as one of the UK's most vibrant coastal towns.
