Newquay Foodbank has launched its Christmas campaign as new figures show that around one in eight people in the town are expected to rely on its support over the festive period.
The charity says it is now helping more than 600 people every week and is calling on residents, businesses and community groups to come together throughout December by donating food or organising fundraising activities.
With demand at its highest level since the foodbank opened, the organisation is urging the community to support those facing hardship during what it describes as the most challenging Christmas yet for many local families.
Zoe Hardacre, spokesperson for Newquay Foodbank, said:
“Christmas is a time when no one should have to worry about how they will feed their family. The reality is that hundreds of people in our town are struggling. Whether you’re able to donate food, organise a collection, or run a fundraiser in your workplace or community group, your support will make a real and immediate difference.”
The charity is encouraging organisations to hold staff collections, donate a portion of festive sales or run Christmas fundraising events. Community groups, schools and individuals are being asked to consider organising food drives, sponsoring hampers or making direct donations.
Newquay Foodbank says every contribution, no matter the size, helps provide dignity and relief for those facing hardship this Christmas.
