Treloggan Road has been shut since November for gas network upgrades by Wales and West Utilities. The works had been due to finish on Friday (27 February), but the closure will now continue until Tuesday.
The company says it is currently working along Treloggan Road and has closed its junction with Polwhele Road until Tuesday 3 March. It says the road will then reopen under traffic lights until the work in the area is completed by 13 March.
Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller, Natalie Raphael said:
“We have been working in the Treloggan Road area of Newquay to upgrade the gas network. This project is vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area.
“We’ve worked closely with Cornwall Council, and to keep the public and our engineers safe, rolling road closures have been in place while we work along Treloggan Road.
“We were due to complete our work by 27 Feb. However, while working, difficult ground and weather conditions have made the job more complex and, unfortunately has delayed our progress.
“We are currently working along Treloggan Road and have closed its junction with Polwhele Road until 03 March. We’ll then reopen the road under traffic lights until we have completed our work in the area by 13 March.
“We are sorry for any inconvenience our work may cause, and we appreciate that delays like this are frustrating. We really are doing everything that we can to complete this essential work as quickly and as safely as we can.”
Last week the company apologised after drivers were caught out when the rolling closure reached Wheatfield Crescent, cutting off a local diversion route.
