Residents are being asked for their views on plans to introduce new pedestrian crossings in Nansledan, following a campaign to improve road safety in the area.
Cornwall Council has launched a consultation on proposals which include a new traffic light-controlled crossing on Quintrell Road, where a temporary crossing is currently in place, a zebra crossing on Stret Euther Pendragon near the Quintrell Road junction, and changes to parking arrangements close to an existing crossing. The council said the scheme is being proposed to improve road safety and accessibility for pedestrians, particularly at key crossing points, warning that existing conditions mean visibility can be limited in some locations, increasing the risk for people crossing the road. It said that by introducing new pedestrian crossings, providing a new zebra crossing and removing parking near an existing crossing, the plans aim to reduce conflict between vehicles and pedestrians, improve sight lines and create a safer, more accessible environment for everyone who uses the street. The proposals follow a previous consultation in 2025 which led to a reduction in the speed limit on the main route through Nansledan to 20mph, after campaigners raised concerns about road safety. The latest consultation runs until 27 February on the Let’s Talk Cornwall website. Kevin Towill, the Cornwall councillor for Newquay Porth and Tretherras, said feedback from residents is “really important”, adding that the changes are aimed at making it safer and easier for residents - especially children, families and vulnerable pedestrians - to move around the community. He said improving walkability and crossing points has been a consistent priority in Newquay, describing the proposals as another step towards creating safer, more accessible neighbourhoods, and encouraged people to look at the plans and share their views, saying public input helps shape decisions that affect daily life and will help ensure Nansledan continues to develop as a safe, well-connected and community-focused place to live.
