Newquay’s Minor Injuries Unit is set to open six days a week later this month, after opening hours were previously reduced due to staffing pressures.
Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust says it has recruited and trained new minor injury practitioners over the past 18 months, allowing services at the unit to be expanded.
From Thursday 19 February, the unit will open from Thursdays to Tuesdays, between 8am and 8pm, and will remain closed on Wednesdays. The trust says the opening pattern reflects the times when the unit is busiest.
The recently upgraded X-ray department at the site will be open five days a week by appointment only.
The trust says opening hours remain under constant review to ensure services are safe and sustainable across Cornwall. It adds that work is continuing to develop the workforce and explore opportunities for joint working with primary care, to support integrated urgent care across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
