Newquay dementia charity Purple Angels is holding a fundraising event in March to help bring the power of music to those living with the disease.
Taking place at the Beresford Hotel, the event on Saturday, 8th March, will raise money to purchase MP3 players. Each player is pre-loaded with a personalised selection of 15 songs tailored to the individual person who has dementia. The charity says music has been shown to be a powerful tool for people living with the disease, because musical memories often remain accessible long after others fade.
The fundraiser will feature live music from Bow River, Tom Cary, Mike Fox, and many more local singer songwriters. It is a Bring Your Own drink event, and there will be a raffle on the night. It starts at 7:00 pm, and tickets cost just £5.
Purple Angels is a campaign dedicated to promoting Dementia Aware Communities. The initiative aims to make businesses, services, and public spaces more accessible to those living with dementia.
Dementia is a progressive condition that affects the brain, with over 200 different types identified. The most common include Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia, and dementia with Lewy bodies. While commonly associated with older adults, dementia can affect people of any age and presents in various ways, including memory loss, cognitive difficulties, and communication challenges.
