Newquay’s Business Improvement District (BID) has been voted in for a fourth five-year term after receiving its strongest backing since it was first formed in 2011.
Eighty-four percent of businesses and organisations taking part in the month-long ballot voted in favour of renewing the scheme, which also passed the second requirement of securing 85 percent of the total rateable value of votes cast. The result means at least £1.1 million will be invested in projects and services across Newquay, focusing on priorities set by the town’s business community. The body says the renewed support shows confidence in its work despite the current economic challenges. The next five-year term, which begins on 1 April 2026, will see BID deliver projects under four main themes – marketing, events, safer and cleaner initiatives, and business support and representation. These will include efforts to promote the town, host and enable community events, and improve public spaces to make Newquay more attractive for residents, visitors, and investors. Newquay BID operates as a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee and is overseen by a voluntary Board of Directors made up of local business leaders. Chair Veryan Palmer, family director of The Headland Hotel, said the result “shows that businesses have recognised the value of Newquay BID, the work of the BID Manager, Mark, and are happy to continue contributing funds to support the town’s projects”. BID will now begin planning to deliver the initiatives outlined in its 26-page business plan, which was published in August following consultation with local businesses.
