Newquay has been awarded Town Regeneration and Investment Programme (TRIP) funding to support a series of cultural and infrastructure projects aimed at improving the town’s long-term vibrancy.
Newquay BID and Newquay Town Council said the funding worth nearly £61,000, will help deliver projects across the town, including new public art, seasonal enhancements and improvements to key public spaces.
It forms part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, delivered in Cornwall through the Good Growth Programme, which aims to strengthen local places and support long-term renewal.
Newquay BID said the funding will enable the creation of three new murals, expanding the town’s well-established mural trail. The trail has become a key part of Newquay’s cultural offer, attracting visitors year-round and encouraging footfall into less familiar areas of the town centre.
The funding will also support the introduction of new street banners across the main town centre during the summer months, designed to complement Newquay’s existing bunting and enhance the town’s seasonal appearance.
Mark Warren, Newquay BID Manager, said:
“We’re incredibly excited to have been awarded TRIP funding and to be able to put this towards projects that are already making a real difference in Newquay. The mural trail has been a fantastic initiative, taking people to parts of the town they may never have explored before and creating a real sense of pride and vibrancy. It’s been a pleasure working with the TRIP team, and we’re really pleased to continue developing these cultural projects for the benefit of residents, businesses, and visitors alike.”
Newquay Town Council’s share of the funding will focus on long-term infrastructure improvements in the town centre and around the Killacourt. This includes upgraded electrical points and lighting to support a wider range of year-round events, from summer activities to Christmas celebrations.
At the Killacourt, the funding has also supported the installation of a new changing cabin for performers and event organisers, improved CCTV to enhance safety, and preparations for the future introduction of Martyn’s Law. Funding has also been used to ensure the safe provision of a festive tree for major seasonal events.
A lighting design and feasibility report has also been completed to guide future improvements to safety, accessibility and the visitor experience.
Drew Creek, Mayor of Newquay, said:
“As Mayor, I am delighted to see Newquay receive this vital TRIP funding. It represents a powerful partnership between Newquay BID and the Town Council, investing in both our cultural soul and our physical infrastructure. From the stunning murals that tell our town’s story to the critical upgrades on the Killacourt, this funding is about enhancing the experience for everyone who lives in, works in, and visits Newquay. It’s a strategic investment in a brighter, more vibrant, and sustainable future for our community.”
