New kennels are being installed this week at St Francis Dogs Home as part of a major redevelopment at the rescue centre in Porth.
Ten new kennels, including sleeping quarters, are being built to replace old buildings no longer fit for purpose.
The centre at Trevelgue will continue placing most dogs in foster homes, but the new facilities will support more complex cases.
We’ve been chatting to Centre Manager Beverly Dobson about the installation and the centre’s Fun Dog Show this weekend (PRESS PLAY below).
The annual fundraising event takes place at the Great Western Hotel on Sunday, from midday to 3pm. It will feature ten show classes, agility courses, stalls, live music, and a bumper raffle – with prizes including a hot air balloon ride for two, hotel stays in Newquay and Padstow, a pet portrait, a wine hamper, vouchers for local shops and cafés, and treats for both pets and their people.
Organisers say the show classes will be judged under cover and in the shade. There will be paddling pools, towels, and plenty of water bowls to help keep dogs cool throughout the day. The indoor areas are all dog-friendly, and owners will be encouraged to stay in the shade.
Everyone is welcome at the event.
