An Indian Queens business has come to the aid of Newquay Surf Life Saving Club after one of its fire extinguishers was used to stop a fire spreading in the dunes at Fistral Beach.
Golant Fire and Security recharged and refilled the extinguisher, ensuring the club was ready for future sessions.
Yesterday, Radio Newquay reported on how club members were praised for their quick thinking in dealing with an out-of-control BBQ fire on Monday evening. The club said they used one of their fire extinguishers, along with buckets of water and sand, to manage the blaze until the fire service arrived.
The club said, "Their swift action helped protect our beautiful dunes and surrounding containers."
Following the incident, an appeal was issued to help replace the extinguisher. The team at Golant Fire and Security responded immediately. A spokesperson for the business said:
"When we saw this shout for support by a local charity (even though they’re not our customer) we were happy to help! Such a great charity, the work they do in the community and for local families is awesome, and they shouldn’t be out of pocket for preventing a fire in the protected dunes, caused by inconsiderate, careless actions of others! We were able to refill and recharge the extinguisher and get the club house all safe for the next session!"
The club has thanked the business. In a post online, they said: "Our club members helped put out the fire with the help of the fire service and now this amazing local Newquay company has helped us by refilling and recharging our fire extinguisher. Thank you."
