Video has emerged of Newquay lifeboat volunteers being accompanied by a pod of dolphins following a major search off Fistral beach.
The lifeboat crew, responding to concerns for people who may have entered the water, were returning to harbour when the encounter with the marine mammals happened on Sunday 1st September.
Shortly before 2am, Newquay Coastguard and RNLI lifeboat volunteers were called to reports of four individuals believed to have entered the sea at South Fistral. Coastguard volunteers carried out a thorough search of the beach, while the RNLI crew used parachute flares, a searchlight, and night vision equipment to search the shoreline.
The search was called off around 6:40am and declared a false alarm. The lifeboat crew then began their return journey to Newquay Harbour when they were joined by the pod of dolphins, a common sight in Newquay Bay. The remarkable interaction was captured on helmet camera by one of the D Class lifeboat crew.
